Report Description
Like American holidays, some Canadian holidays, though recognized, do not garner paid days off. Along with federally recognized holidays, Canada also has provincial and territorial holidays. Even though they're celebrated nationally, vacation is not paid for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Father's Day, or Halloween. Statutory holidays - which include New Year's Day, Good Friday (Easter), Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day - are celebrated nationwide and are paid days off for employees. Federally regulated employees also get Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Thanksgiving and Boxing Day off and it is common practice, however, not required, for non-federal employees to get these holidays off as well.
How to Use
The purpose of this report is to calculate holiday pay for an employee. The calculation for Ontario statutory holiday pay is described as:
"Total amount of regular wages earned and vacation pay four work weeks before the work week in which the public holiday occurred, divided by 20. The four weeks before the public holiday is based on the employer’s work week. For example, instead of a Monday to Sunday work week, it could be a Sunday to Saturday work week." - Push Operations
Therefore, users should run this report using an End Date of the beginning of the Week Worked that includes the holiday and a Start Date 4 weeks before.
Example: To calculate holiday pay for Christmas Day 2020 for an assignment with a week worked start date of Sunday, December 20th, the Start Date should be 11/22/2020 and the End Date should be 12/20/2020.
