To use this method, the Avionté user or group must be able to view and edit the IsTaxExempt field.
This article will do the following:
- Determine whether the IsTaxExempt field is available to the user or group.
- Provide instructions for making it available in the case that it isn’t.
- Provide instructions for setting tax exemptions for employees with no taxable wage.

Verify the User Can Access the IsTaxExempt Field
- From the Main Menu, click on Employee.
- Search for the employee that has tax exemptions.
- Double-click on the employee's record to open their Summary page
- If a Data Requirement Message (DRM) displays, click OK.
- If a Data Requirement Message (DRM) displays, click OK.
- Navigate to Employee > Payroll > Tax.
- Click the Field Chooser button in the upper left corner of the grid.
When the IsTaxExempt field is available
- Add a check next to "IsTaxExempt".
- Close the Field Chooser window.
- Set the employee's tax exemptions by following the steps in the
If IsTaxExempt does not appear in the Field Chooser window, it must be enabled using Admin Tools. The next section contains instructions for enabling IsTaxExempt for the user.
Allow User Access to View and Edit the IsTaxExempt Field
This section describes the steps required to allow a user or group to view and edit the IsTaxExempt field. After making these changes you will be instructed to restart the application to save these changes.
Open Admin Tools and Locate the User-UserSetting Option Type
Follow these steps to open Admin Tools and locate the User-UserSetting option type.
- Navigate to the Start page.
- Click the Actions menu.
- Select Admin Tools.
- Click System.
- Double-click Config Option in the right pane.
- Click the Config Option By FKName tab.
- In the ConfigOptionType field, enter "User" to search for the option type.
- From the search results, select User-UserSetting.
Allow the User to View the IsTaxExempt Field
Follow these steps to enable the AllowShowIsTaxExempt property and allow the user to see the IsTaxExempt field in the Field Chooser.
- In the Property field, enter "AllowShowIsTaxExempt" to perform a search of the option properties.
- Click on AllowShowIsTaxExempt in the grid to select it.
- In the Apply To section, click the radio button next to User or Group, depending on how you will be applying these permissions.
- In the FKName field within the Select Config Option Value section, enter the name of the user or group to perform a search.
- Select the user or group from the list of search results.
- In the ConfigOptionValue field, enter "True".
- Press the Tab key to save the change.
Allow the User to Edit the IsTaxExempt Setting
Follow these steps to enable the AllowChangingTaxExempt property.
- In the Property field, enter "AllowChangingTaxExempt".
- Click on AllowChangingTaxExempt in the grid to select it.
- In the Apply To section, click the radio button next to User or Group depending on how you will be applying these permissions.
- In the FKName field within the Select Config Option Value section, enter the name of the user or group to perform a search.
- Select the user or group from the list of search results.
- In the ConfigOptionValue field, enter "True".
- Press the Tab key to save the change.
Restart Application once Permissions updated
Each user who has received updated permissions to view and edit the IsTaxExempt field must restart the Avionté application so the changes are applied to their account.
- Click the Avionté button in the upper-left corner of the window.
- Click Restart Application.
Add the IsTaxExempt Field to the Grid
- When the application has restarted, navigate back to Employee > Payroll > Tax.
- Click the Field Chooser button.
- In the Field Chooser window, add a check next to IsTaxExempt.
- Close the Field Chooser window.
Set Employee Taxes as Tax Exempt
- Add a check in the IsTaxExempt column next to the first tax.
- Click OK in the confirmation message to confirm the action and set the employee as exempt from this tax.
- Repeat this process for each tax that the employee is exempt from.
